Back in 2018 we (Francois and Mirja) wanted to develop our own piece of land into a private equestrian livery facility. It very quickly became apparent to us that it was difficult to find reliable companies to contact that could manage an equestrian project like ours. It took us the best part of 2018 and 2019 to get all the contractors together to develop our facility. That was enough to plant the seed that we should be considering providing equine construction services.
At the time Francois was still working full time in the corporate world of IT and Consulting. Nevertheless, we setup a company and started thinking about how we could get it off the ground (whilst working on our own project) and not really knowing what first step to take.
Fast forward to 2020 and the appearance of a global pandemic and the related lockdowns. Like so many other people, the lockdown turned our lives upside down, but for us it turned out to be the catalyst needed to get Rohan Equestrian Services of the ground. After being offered a retrenchment package from his employer at the time, Francois (with the support of Mirja) made the jump… and here we are today successfully providing equine construction services.
Our mission at Rohan Equestrian Services has always been to provide superior quality equine structures built from steel and wood that could be an alternative, and more affordable, option to traditional bricks and mortar structures.
We wanted to build wood and steel stables that did not sacrifice on look, feel, and robustness. We wanted to develop something that put horse comfort and safety at the top of our priority list.
Durability and easy maintenance also regularly came up on in out designs.
Today our stables are built with the best quality materials that we can source.
We’ve incorporated Zincal roof sheets as standard. Zincal roof sheets come with a 40-year warranty, do not rust, and do not need to be painted.
Wood panels are treated with Silkwood decking treatment, which allows for easy reapplication when needed.
Our signature mesh divider and v-front grids improve airflow and horse safety. The risk of a horse getting cast is significantly reduced by having the grids installed and horses can easily interact with each other without hurting each other.
We use a variety of steel thicknesses in our steel frame designs, ensuring that high stress areas are built with thicker, stronger steel to improve durability.
